Student Support

At Unity College, we are committed to supporting students both academically and personally throughout their time with us. We understand that every child is different, and we aim to provide a wide range of support to help all students feel safe, supported and successful.

Pastoral Support

Form Tutor

Your Form Tutor is the member of staff who will know you best at college. You will see them every day during form time, and they are the first person you should speak to if you have any worries or concerns.

Your Form Tutor supports:

  • Academic progress
  • Attendance and behaviour
  • Personal development and wellbeing
  • Day-to-day support and guidance

Parents and carers can also contact Form Tutors if they have concerns or questions about their child by calling the college office.

Head of Year and Deputy Head of Year

Each year group has a Head of Year and a Deputy Head of Year who oversee the year group as a whole.

They work closely with Form Tutors to:

  • Monitor attendance, behaviour and achievement
  • Support students across the year group
  • Encourage participation in college life
  • Help students achieve their full potential

Learning Support

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Support

Some students may require additional support with their learning. Our SEND team can provide specialist guidance and support where needed.

If you feel you may need extra support, speak to your Form Tutor or ask a parent/carer to contact our SENDCo: c.edwards@unity.lancs.sch.uk

Homework Club

Homework Club runs Monday to Thursday from 2:50pm–3:50pm.

Students can attend to:

  • Complete homework
  • Receive help and guidance
  • Work in a quiet environment
  • Develop organisation and study skills

Year 11 Grade Up Sessions

Grade Up sessions are available throughout the year to help students improve their knowledge, skills and confidence across subjects.

Sessions take place after college and provide students with additional support, revision guidance and opportunities to strengthen their understanding. Students should speak to their subject teachers for details of times and days.

Wellbeing and Health Support

Students in Years 7–11 have one PSHE lesson fortnightly.

These lessons help students develop their understanding of:

  • Relationships and friendships
  • Staying safe and healthy

  • Low intensity CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)

We also work with trusted support services.

If you are worried about your emotional wellbeing, speak to your Form Tutor in the first instance.

If there is a serious concern regarding mental health or wellbeing, parents/carers should contact their GP or visit urgent care in an emergency.
