This section of the website contains lots of information about subject areas within our varied curriculum as well as some overviews of both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
We believe that learning is an enjoyable, lifelong process through which everyone can achieve their potential and exceed their expectations. We will challenge and support our students to do their very best by providing an extensive range of learning experiences beyond the statutory requirement
It is important to recognise that the curriculum is not solely about the National Curriculum, although this is the legal foundation because it secures an entitlement for all students. The curriculum embraces all that is learned through college, whether it be in lessons or part of informal learning within and beyond the college day.
The curriculum at Unity is innovative and responsive to students demands. At Key Stage 3 we run a dynamic new i-XL curriculum throughout Year 7 which gives all students the chance to explore different curriculum areas through exciting project-based tasks. Students in Year 9 embark upon our Interest Module curriculum to begin to exercise choice over what they study. At Key Stage 4, we do not run a prescribed ‘option block’ system but allow students to make free choices from all the courses on offer. A curriculum is then planned around what each cohort choose to do. The curriculum at Key Stage 4 offers a wide variety of traditional and vocational courses. We also have Foundation Learning Tier opportunities and alternative curriculum provision for those students who need it. Dedicated curriculum time is given to Functional Skills throughout the college and we have just introduced a brand new course at Key Stage 4 called Community Cohesion. This exciting new two year course combines elements of Religious Education, Citizenship and PSCHE.
