In Year 7, Art forms part of the innovative iXL curriculum, where students are able to explore new artistic techniques and research artists’ work around a wider theme. Students then continue to study one lesson of Art each week with the option of choosing extra Art lessons in the Interest Modules in Year 9.
At Key Stage 4, students can opt for a GCSE in the subject. Students produce sets of work based on their research of artists, crafts people and designers, and of artistic cultures and traditions.
They have the opportunity to explore many different techniques including drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, fabric constructions and dying, photography and computer aided design.
The emphasis is on developing knowledge and understanding of art, as well as a range of artistic and craft skills. The Art & Design course at Key Stage 4 is suitable for those students who have an interest and enthusiasm for creative studies in art, craft and design and those who have a flair for developing and exploring ideas.
